Socks

I found this helpful sock tutorial for the beginning sock knitter.

I bought some Trekking XXL sock yarn on Sat. and am excited and scared to try my first sock. But, I have 10 projects on my knitting to do list so it might be a few months before I get to the socks.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! :) This is only my 2nd pair of socks ever and the Trekking is slightly rougher in texture than the last sock yarn I used, but I've heard it softens up after blocking and washing. I'm using US 2's in bamboo. I'm a little bit of a tight knitter, so I feel they give me a pretty good tension. If I remember correctly I'm getting about 7-8 sts/inch in stockinette. Good luck with your first sock! They're not as hard as I thought they were, and turning your first heel is like magic. My only word of advice: be sure to cast on loosely if you are going cuff-down so you can actually get the sock over your foot! It's a sad thing to make something so pretty and not be able to wear it. (Not that I'd know...ahem...anything about that.) :-P

Karen,

Thanks for the advice on the socks. Loose, loose, loose at the top. I'll remember that. Of course, I usually knit really loose everwhere BUT the beginning.

You're going to love knitting socks, I know it. It's the coolest "geometry"--it makes so much sense!

Wouldn't you know it, I managed to cast on TOO loosely my first time. In fact, I remade that sock three times! But then it went as smoothly as anything. :-)
